The change brought about by data analytics to today’s business is real. Some businesses use it effectively, making it a key source of competitive advantage while others are still exploring how analytics will fit into their businesses. Given the accelerating pace at which data-driven technologies are evolving businesses, Boards and ACs who remain status quo will lose out to their competitors who take full advantage of data analytics to improve their revenues and profits.

At the same time, investors want greater transparency in corporate reporting, including the AC’s views on significant accounting matters. If used appropriately, the AC commentary can be an effective communication tool for ACs to showcase the robustness of their work performed. This is a platform that ACs must make full use.

To explain in greater detail are Mr Sanjay Panjabi, Chair of the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA)’s Data Analytics Sub-Committee and Partner of Deloitte & Touche, and Mr Hans Koopmans, Deputy Chair of the ISCA Auditing and Assurance Standards Committee and Partner of PwC Singapore. Sanjay will share how ACs can capitalise on analytics to gain insights and tap on opportunities. Hans will then discuss the key observations from a survey carried out by PwC on the AC commentaries and enhanced auditor’s reports in Singapore from the second reporting season.
