MCD 4 - Enterprise and Strategic Risk Management (C)

MCD 4 - Enterprise and Strategic Risk Management (C)
Against the backdrop of geopolitical tensions and technological disruption, the concept of a world marked by volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity (VUCA) has gained traction. Applied to organisations, there is heightened expectations for directors to understand risks in this “VUCA” world, identify and manage these risks, as well as balance stakeholders’ expectations.

This session highlights the impetus for an Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) strategy. The integration of ERM strategy into the organisation’s business strategy, and the various facets of ERM strategy, underpin its value preservation and value creation roles. Participants will deep dive into strategic risk areas that warrant attention at the director level. These strategic areas transcend traditional risk areas, which may already be well mitigated, and have the potential to critically impair an organisation should they not be properly managed.

Course Objectives
  1. Assess and understand the evolving expectations of directors, with a view to balance their governance oversight and risk management roles.
  2. Provide insights into developing an ERM strategy that enables value preservation and value creation within an organisation.
  3. Identify strategic risks areas that require directors to take on an active role in addressing.
  4. Discuss how strategic risk areas can be mitigated via necessary controls that should be in place.
