CHAIR & CEO MESSAGE




Dear Friend of SID,

August started on a celebratory note with a number of highlights:

  • The Institute’s 25th Anniversary Commemorative Event was held at SGX Centre and live-streamed on 28 July. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Mr Lawrence Wong was the Guest-of-Honour at the event, which was attended by some 150 guests comprising representatives of partner organisations, past and present Council members, and staff. 

  • Watch the video highlights of the 25th Anniversary Commemorative EventWith a ceremonial strike of the gong to open the market and mark the 25th anniversary of SID, the new logo of the institute was unveiled. The new look represents the Institute’s refreshed energy and commitment to its mission.

  • At the event, DPM Wong gave a special address where he announced the upcoming launch of SID’s accreditation framework for directors and expressed his hope that “directors and companies will make full use of this framework to strengthen the bench of directors in your boards”.
  • DPM Wong also launched the SID Governance for Good Alliance and encouraged more stakeholders to “join the Alliance and rally behind SID’s mission to uplift corporate governance”. The Alliance now has more than 100 partners comprising government agencies, trade associations and chambers, professional bodies, and more.

  • The SID-SCS Women in Tech Board Readiness Programme kicked off on 28 July with 27 senior female executives with a background in media and tech as participants. The kick-off was attended by Mr Sam Liew, President, SCS and Mr Lew Chuen Hong, Chief Executive, IMDA.

In the weeks to follow, members can look forward to:

  • A special seminar on Climate Reporting on 30 August, for directors of all organisations, held in conjunction with the public consultation on the recommendations by the Sustainability Reporting Advisory Committee.

And of course, please register for the SID Directors Conference on 20 September if you have not already done so. There will be more than 80 speakers across six interactive zones including keynotes by Guest-of-Honour Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat and Pav Gill, the whistleblower who exposed Wirecard, one of Europe's largest financial scandals.
 
Finally, do save the date for the Corporate Governance Roundup and AGM on 26 October, as well as a special 25th Anniversary Gala on 30 November at Marina Bay Sands.
 
As we march forward towards the next 25 years, we look forward to your continued engagement and partnership as we collectively strive to uplift the directorship profession.

Special Seminar
Climate Reporting – Directors, How Do You Respond?

Wednesday, 30 August 2023 | 10.00am to 12.00pm | SGX Auditorium

On 6 July 2023, ACRA and SGX RegCo issued a public consultation on the recommendations by the Sustainability Reporting Advisory Committee (SRAC) to advance mandatory climate reporting in Singapore. Companies are coming under increasing scrutiny to report climate-based targets and actions. The rapidly growing interest in ESG issues has led to a call for globally comparable and credible sustainability disclosures. Some advocacy groups are also moving from passive criticism to hands-on activism.

Celebrating 25 Years of Championing Good Governance
28 July 2023

SID celebrated its 25th Anniversary Commemorative Event at the SGX Centre. The milestone occasion was attended by more than 100 representatives of government bodies, trade associations and chambers, professional agencies, professional services firms and educational institutions. The event was livestreamed on LinkedIn. The Guest-of-Honour for the event, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Mr Lawrence Wong announced the SID Accreditation programme to be rolled out in 2024 and the Governance for Good Alliance, bringing together more than 100 founding partners committed to good governance and supporting SID’s work. 


 


Launch of the Board Readiness Programme
28 July 2023

The SID Board Readiness Programme was launched on Friday, 28 July 2023. The inaugural cohort, curated in partnership with Singapore Computer Society and its Women in Tech Chapter, was supported by Infocomm Media Development Authority. The one-year programme is designed to prepare senior executives and professionals from the digital and technology space for board directorship positions. The programme is based on the SID Director Competency model which reflects eight competencies that directors need to employ in the boardroom: (a) Governance, (b) Director duties and practices, (c) Financial skillsets, (d) Risk management, (e) Strategy development, (f) Digital skillsets, (g) Human capital, (h) Sustainability fundamentals.
