HIGHLIGHTS

Dear Members,

With International Women’s Day on 8 March, we are reminded of the importance of gender and board diversity. As we celebrate the achievements of women, let us reflect on the progress made towards more diverse boards – whether in diversity of thought, background or experience.

With this in mind, we hope you will explore some of the diverse chapters and networks within SID. We now have six chapters and six networks. Every chapter – chaired or co-chaired by an SID Governing Council member – focuses on one of six key themes or domains:

  • Audit and Risk Committee
  • Nomination and Remuneration Committee
  • Digital
  • Environment, Social and Governance
  • Nonprofit Organisations
  • Women Directors

They serve to support the Institute’s work in advancing thought leadership and advocacy, building capacity and competencies and connecting the ecosystem.

Our networks, on the other hand, are driven by a core team of SID member volunteers. Through social networking events, these ground-up initiatives bring together members from diverse backgrounds and industries, tapping on their common interest.

The networks are:

  • Art
  • Family Business
  • Fellows (new!)
  • Golf
  • New Directors
  • Startups

Together, the chapters and networks cater to the diverse interests and needs of SID members. Joining a chapter or network allows you to receive focused communication from SID about activities organised by the chapter or network. There is no joining fee or limit to the number of chapters or networks you can join. Simply log into your member account and indicate your interest to start engaging, learning and connecting with like-minded individuals.

In advancing thought leadership and advocacy, we have curated a selection of articles that reflect our commitment to diversity. Our Q1 2024 issue of the SID Directors Bulletin on Future-Proofing the Board looks at how boards can gear up to be future-ready. Diversity and inclusion in the boardroom can help boards make better decisions, as put forward by our featured authors Tan Boon Gin and Turid Elisabeth Solvang (see below).

To cater to the diverse professional development needs of our members, SID has a selection of  learning opportunities ranging from Current Topics to Masterclasses. If you want to develop competencies expected of an SGX-listed company director, don't miss out on the webinar course of the Listed Entity Directors (LED) programme starting this week or in July. You can also sign up for the in-person sessions scheduled in October. To register or learn more, click here.

If you or someone you know is an aspiring board director, join the second cohort of our flagship SID Board Readiness programme set to commence in July. Join us for an information sharing session on 18 March. You can also download the brochure from the SID website for more information.

Finally, here are some events we’ve lined up for the months ahead for our members:

  • 10 May: Launch of the SID Director Accreditation programme
  • 12 July: SID Golf Tournament
  • 1 August: Singapore Governance and Transparency Forum
  • 16 August: Members Networking Event
