SID was established 25 years ago in July 1998. As we fortify our commitment to uplift the directorship profession and champion good governance, we embark on the Institute’s next chapter with three significant milestone initiatives this month:

• On 1 July 2023, Climate Governance Singapore (CGS) integrated with SID to enable a unified resource for board-level climate governance and climate action matters. CGS was established in 2021 as part of the Climate Governance Initiative (CGI) to mobilise boards around the world to accelerate the net zero transition, guided by the World Economic Forum’s Principles for Effective Climate Governance. SID members can look forward to benefitting from CGS and CGI programmes and resources, starting with a recording of the webinar “ESG and Climate Governance International Conference: What directors need to know”. 
  
  
• The inaugural SID Board Readiness Programme co-developed with 20 pre-eminent professional services firms kicks off on 28 July 2023. The first cohort is co-branded with Singapore Computer Society’s Women in Tech Chapter and supported by Infocomm Media Development Authority. 27 SID members who are women senior executives and professionals from the digital and tech space will embark on a one-year learning journey comprising self-assessments, seminars, board simulation, mentorship and professional networking. The programme aims to equip attendees with essential knowledge, skills and attributes to prepare them for board directorship positions. • We mark our 25th anniversary this month with a commemorative event on 28 July 2023. Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong will grace the occasion, conduct a ceremonial gong-strike to open the market and deliver an address to SID members and partners. This will be followed by a fireside chat with Past Chairs of SID. Witness this important milestone event and be among the first to hear about key initiatives SID will be launching by joining the live-stream on SID’s LinkedIn page from 8.30am.

• SID Directors Conference, 20 September 2023, 9.30am to 5.00pm at the Esplanade. The annual flagship event returns with a ''festival'' format to allow attendees to choose their own learning adventure. With over 30 sessions across six zones and featuring over 80 speakers, there is something for everyone, from aspiring to experienced directors, and from listed firms to charities. Registration is now open with early bird specials. 
  
  
• SID Corporate Governance Roundup and Annual General Meeting on 26 October 2023 at Capital Tower, 8.30am to 11.30am. Often touted as the best summary of everything board directors need to know for the year, the Corporate Governance Roundup will feature condensed presentations on key trends and topics for the year 2023. Members are invited to join in the Annual General Meeting to elect the new SID Governing Council. Registration opens in August.

• SID Members Gala Evening, 30 November 2023 at Marina Bay Sands. A first-ever gala event for SID members and partners to get together to celebrate the 25th Anniversary. Join us for an evening of celebration and friendship. Registration opens in August.

Exclusive to SID members, the SID Directors Bulletin Q3 2023 edition is out this month and is now accessible from your member portal. Themed “The Future of Money”, this edition looks at the evolving world of cash, payments, business ventures, asset and wealth management, board compensation and more through the lens of directorship and governance. Read one of the features here.

In addition, we have curated a range of learning events, including Cyber Risk and Resilience in the Digital Age (20 July), The Board in Strategy Formulation (17–18 August), as well as So, You Want to be a Director (24 August), Director Financial Reporting Fundamentals ( 7 September), and Listed Entity Director Programme (Mandarin) – Core (19–27 September). 

We are grateful for the many SID members and partners who have helped SID advance its cause over the years by supporting our initiatives, such as the 25th anniversary edition of SID’s Annual Golf Tournament which took place on 9 June at the Sentosa Golf Course with Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong as Guest-of-Honour.

SID Golf Tournament - 25th Anniversary edition
9 June 2023

The 25^th anniversary edition of SID’s annual golf tournament was graced by Guest-of-Honour Mr Gan Kim Yong, Minister of Trade and Industry. Players enjoyed a fun-filled day of friendly competition under clear skies. Highlights included a specially-curated putting clinic with squad players from the Singapore Golf Association, a networking dinner, lucky draw and prize presentation for players and teams.
