CHAIR & CEO MESSAGE

Dear Member,

SID turns 25 in July, and we’ve ramped up our activities to increase our value to members and amplify our work in uplifting the directorship profession and championing good governance.

Last month, we held the first SID Fellows Evening since the pandemic. About 100 SID Fellows gathered for this annual tradition of camaraderie and celebration. Thanks to EY, the evening featured a live string quartet, a fireside chat between two Fellows (Banyan Tree’s Executive Chairman Mr Ho Kwon Ping and Egon Zehnder’s Ms Elaine Yew), a tribute to our Honorary Fellows, and a publication launch. Check out the photos and video

SID Fellows are a source of inspiration, guidance and leadership in our community. If you are a Fellow or an experienced board director, and have an interest in contributing to the next generation of directors, come share your wisdom and experience as a Mentor; drop us an email.

SID has also been active on the thought leadership and advocacy front. At the Fellows Evening, we launched the fourth volume of Boardroom Matters, a collection of 50 articles published monthly in The Business Times.

Members can look forward to more courses and events over the next few weeks, including the annual fundraising Golf Tournament (9 June), SGOOD offerings for nonprofit board directors (20 June), Board and Director Fundamentals (2728 June), and the Listed Entity Director Programme series (426 July).

We are also launching our Board Readiness Programme for aspiring directors and an accreditation framework. As we continue to deliver more initiatives, we will be adjusting membership fees, which have remained constant since 2018. In order to bring greater value to members and support our new initiatives, we will be aligning Associate and Ordinary membership rates and adjusting entrance fees effective 1 July 2023. Click here to view the details.

Meanwhile, we hope you’ll continue to grow professionally, expand your horizons and network. Here are some dates of key events not to be missed:

  • 28 July: SID’s 25th Anniversary Commemorative Event with an address by DPM Lawrence Wong and a fireside chat with past Chairs of SID. The event will be live-streamed on SID’s LinkedIn page (please follow the page).
  • 20 September: SID Directors Conference at The Esplanade. The flagship event takes on a “choose your own learning adventure” format this year featuring some 80 speakers and panellists. Details coming soon
  • 26 October: Corporate Governance Roundup and Annual General Meeting. A “crash course” in directorship and governance trends over the past 12 months, the Corporate Governance Roundup also looks ahead. The Annual General Meeting is held directly after. Details will be out in August.
  • 30 November: SID Members Gala Evening at Marina Bay Sands. This special event is aimed at bringing members together to commemorate SID’s 25th anniversary. Join us for an evening filled with festivities, entertainment and networking. Details will be out in August.
Look out for more exciting news in July – including a refreshed look and more member giveaways to celebrate our 25th anniversary.

Yours in directorship,

Su-Yen and Terence
