Launch of the Singapore Directorship Report 2023

SDR 2023
Join us at the launch of the Singapore Directorship Report 2023 – the definitive study conducted on the state of directorship in Singapore. Board diversity, directorship tenure, sustainability reporting, risk management and remuneration disclosures are some of the hot button issues that will be examined. This 5th edition of the Report will present statistical data collected from all listed entities on directors and examine the impact of regulatory changes on board composition and practices.


The Singapore Directorship Report 2023 is produced by SID, in collaboration with Deloitte, Handshakes and Singapore Institute of Technology, and is supported by Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority and Singapore Exchange.

SPEAKERS' PROFILES

NG WAI KING
Chairman, Singapore Directorship Report 2023


Mr Ng Wai King is the Chairman and Managing Partner of WongPartnership LLP. An M&A and private equity lawyer, he has worked on a number of high profile and complex transactions including the merger of the offshore marine businesses of Keppel and SembMarine; the restructuring by CapitaLand and CLA; the demerger of SembMarine from SembCorp Industries; the merger between Fraser Commercial Trust and Fraser Logistic & Industrial Trust; CapitaLand’s acquisition of Ascendas-SingBridge; privatisation of GLP by the Nesta consortium; Temasek’s privatisation of SMRT; Walmart’s acquisition of Flipkart in India; Blackstone’s acquisition of Croesus; KKR’s acquisition of Goodpack, Unisteel and MMI, and TCC/Thai Beverage’s takeover of F&N. He holds an LLB from NUS where he was awarded the AV Winslow Prize, and an LLM from Columbia University School of Law where he graduated as a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. Mr Ng also serves as a director on the Monetary Authority of Singapore, National University Board of Trustees, Singapore Institute of Legal Education and Wah Hin & Company.



YEOH OON JIN
Vice-Chair, Singapore Institute of Directors


Mr Yeoh Oon Jin was the Executive Chairman of PwC Singapore before his retirement following a 38-year career with PwC. He serves as the Chairman of Singapore Land Authority, and is the Vice Chairman of Singapore Business Federation. He also serves as a board member and audit committee Chairman of Singapore Exchange, Singapore Airlines and Trust Bank Singapore. Mr Yeoh is a member of the Corporate Governance Advisory Committee set up by the Monetary Authority of Singapore. He is the Vice Chairman of the Singapore Institute of Directors and a past Council Member of Singapore Institute of International Affairs and the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants. Mr Yeoh is also a board member and audit committee chairman of Kidney Dialysis Foundation, and serves on the board of governors for the Lien Foundation.



HO YEW KEE
Professor of Accounting, Singapore Institute of Technology


Dr Ho Yew Kee is Professor of Accounting at the Singapore Institute of Technology, where he is also Cluster Director, Business, Communication and Design and Co-Chairperson of the AccTech Centre Advisory Committee. Prof Ho is a director of a listed insurance company and serves on the boards of Charity Council, National Kidney Foundation, St Luke’s Eldercare, Dover Park Hospice, CBMC Singapore, CPA Australia, amongst others. He is a former board member of The Boys’ Brigade, SATA CommHealth, Prison Fellowship Singapore, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority. He is also a member of the Advisory Council at the Institute of Certified Management Accountants, Sri Lanka, the Deakin University Integrated Reporting Centre, Australia, and Council of CPA (Australia) Singapore Division.



VICTOR YEO CHUAN SENG
Associate Professor of Business Law, Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University

Mr Victor Yeo is Associate Professor of Business Law at Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University. He is an advocate and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore and a Fellow of the Singapore Institute of Directors. He has served as a director on corporate boards, charities and statutory bodies as well as committees of professional bodies. He is an Associate Director of Aptus Law, and a recognised expert in corporate law and governance. Mr Yeo has designed and conducted numerous training programmes on company law and corporate governance for directors and corporate executives of private as well as publicly listed companies, members of professional bodies and officers of governmental institutions and third sector organisations.



ANNABELLE YIP
Senior Consultant and Principal member of the Corporate Governance & Compliance Practice, WongPartnership


Ms Annabelle Yip is a principal member of the Corporate Governance & Compliance Practice and a Senior Consultant at WongPartnership. Her expertise also covers mergers and acquisitions, business establishment and employment. Ms Yip is recommended as a leading practitioner in The Legal 500: Asia Pacific, Expert Guides: Women in Business Law, asialaw Leading Lawyers, asialaw Profiles, and Who’s Who Legal. She sits on the board of directors of UOL Group Limited, AIA Financial Advisers Private Limited and Checkpoint Theatre Limited. She is a Fellow of the Singapore Institute of Directors.



SHARIQ BARMAKY
CEO, Deloitte Singapore


Mr Shariq Barmaky is the CEO of Deloitte Singapore. He has more than 30 years of experience in public accounting in the UK and Singapore. He has extensive experience in the audits of multinational and local companies in various industries. He has been involved in due diligence and public listings of equities and commercial papers. As the Deloitte Southeast Asia Audit & Assurance Leader (2016 to 2023), he was responsible for the overall audit and assurance business within the 10 ASEAN countries. He also served as a member of the board of directors of Deloitte Southeast Asia (2013 to 2016). Mr Barmaky is on the boards of the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority, Civil Service College and Shared Services for Charities. He is also a Vice President of the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants.



JUNE SIM
Managing Director
Head, Listing Compliance
Singapore Exchange Regulation (SGX RegCo) 


Ms June Sim is the Managing Director and Head of Listing Compliance in SGX RegCo, and oversees the compliance of all SGX-listed companies with the Listing Manual. She leads the function that monitors listed issuers’ compliance with continuing listing obligations, including regulatory oversight of Catalist sponsors. As a senior management member of SGX RegCo, her views are valued in discharging SGX’s responsibilities as the frontline regulator in the review of submissions to SGX RegCo for corporate action. She is a frequent speaker on various corporate governance seminars, and contributes to raising standards of the professionals in our capital market.

Assistant Vice President, Handshakes


Ms Bernice Tan is Assistant Vice President and leads the Xpert and Analytics team in Handshakes.
