This course provides an introduction to the directorship landscape in Singapore, and the duties, liabilities and benefits of directorship in nonprofits. Speakers will share what it means to be on the board of a nonprofit organisation and what are the key considerations of joining a nonprofit board. With a good understanding of the nonprofit landscape and its duties and responsibilities, participants can make an informed decision before joining a nonprofit board.
This programme is supported by the Social Service Institute with funding by National Silver Academy and venue provided by the National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre.

2. This course has been pre-approved for funding by the National Silver Academy. Participants who are Singaporeans or Permanent Residents aged 50 years and above in the year of course commencement are eligible to apply. SPEAKERS

Adrian Chan
Vice-Chairman, SID
Mr Adrian Chan is Head of Corporate at Lee & Lee. He serves on the Legal Service Commission and previously served on the board of the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority. He is an independent director on the boards of several listed companies on the Singapore Exchange and has been appointed to the SGX Catalist Advisory Panel to review Catalist Sponsor and Registered Professional applications. He is a Council Member of the Law Society of Singapore and co-chairs the Corporate Governance and Regulations Interest Group of the Singapore International Chamber of Commerce. He has also been appointed to Singapore Management University’s Enterprise Board.

Loong Tse Chuan
Partner, Litigation & Dispute ResolutionAllen & Gledhill LLP
Mr Loong Tse Chuan graduated on the Dean’s List (1998 to 2000) and Final Year Dean’s List (2001) of the National University of Singapore, and won several prizes for academic excellence. He is a Facilitator for the Civil Litigation and Ethics & Professional Responsibility subjects of the Preparatory Course leading to Part B of the Singapore Bar Examinations. Mr Loong is a Partner in the Litigation & Dispute Resolution department at Allen & Gledhill LLP with close to 20 years of experience, and has a broad commercial litigation practice which includes shareholder disputes, joint venture disputes and claims in respect of breaches of directors’ duties.

Wong Su-Yen
Past Chair, SID
Ms Wong Su-Yen is an experienced board chair and independent director who has served for over 15 years on the boards of multiple listed, family-controlled, private equity-held, government-linked and not-for-profit organisations in Australia, Asia and the US. She chairs or is a member of various nominating, remuneration and audit committees, and has experience in business strategy, human capital development and organisation transformation. She is chairperson of James Cook University Singapore, lead independent director at SGX-listed Yoma Strategic Holdings, and independent director at CSE Global and First Resources. She also serves on the board of Kemin Industries, and is a director of the Infocomm Media Development Authority. She is an Adjunct Professor of Leadership at the National University of Singapore Business School, and an active member of the Young Presidents’ Organization.

Edwin Yeo
Lead for BoardMatch and Advisory, National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre
Mr Edwin Yeo leads the BoardMatch and Advisory Programmes at the National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre. With extensive experience across industries like engineering, exhibitions and manufacturing, he specialises in business development, project management and change management to drive profitability and service excellence. Mr Yeo serves on several boards, including the Global Cultural Alliance and Volleyball Association Singapore. He has served as chairperson (Asia Pacific) of Cornerstone International Group, chair (ASEAN) of the Association of Executive Search and Leadership Consultants and chairman and co-founder of Changing Minds, showcasing his dedication to impactful governance.

Anbarasan Thuraimanikam
Senior Manager, Centre for Non-Profit Leadership, National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre
Mr Anbarasan Thuraimanikam is a strategic leader with over 20 years of experience bridging technology and social impact. As senior manager of Leadership and Performance at Singapore’s National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre, he develops leadership programmes for charity boards and executives to enhance governance and strategy in the social sector. Previously, at the Singapore Indian Development Association, Mr Thuraimanikam led community engagement and wellness initiatives, including the Health Ambassadors programme, in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the Health Promotion Board. This initiative improved health literacy and wellness among underserved communities, showcasing his dedication to meaningful, community-driven change.
