Tax disputes in Singapore and cross-border tax controversies are increasingly making their way onto the board agenda. Apart from potentially hurting a company’s bottom line, these may also damage the reputation of the company and its directors. As seen from a recent landmark case before the Singapore High Court, appeals to the Tax Tribunal and challenges to tax assessments made by the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) can yield favourable results for the company. His landmark win in this case was recognised as “Impact Case of the Year” by International Tax Review and was raised in Parliament for discussion.
